Mary Inglis was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland on February 18, 1816 to Thomas Inglis and Janet Burnside. She includes the initials of her parents and many relatives on her typically Scottish sampler. The initials M E beneath the verse are most probably those of her teacher.
The lovely verse reads "Time Once Lost Never Returns, The Moment Which is Lost is Lost Forever".
Mary stitched her sampler with a manor house and prominent bright blue roof at the age of 14.
The sampler is to be stitched on 32 count linen with Gentle Arts Threads and DMC floss.
The stitch count is 204 x 204.
Stitches used are cross over one and two threads of linen, back stitch, satin stitch, and eyelet stitch. Complete instructions and a DMC conversion are also included.
