Description
Designer: Modern Folk Embroidery
This is the sampler made by Rink Symons in 1781 in the Frisian city of Hindeloopen. The booklet gives a detailed biography about Hindeloopen and Rink, and takes you on a journey to this beautiful Frisian coastal town and its rich cultural history.
This design measures 172 crosses in width and 241 in height. Please see the chart below for size- and floss estimates. Floss estimates are based on working with two pulled strands (14 – 18-count aida or 28 – 36-count linen) or 1 strand (20-count aida / 40-count linen and higher). Backstitches and eyelets are all worked with a single strand. It is, of course, up to you how many strands you want to use for your project. Don’t feel limited to stitching the design entirely monochrome – use as many or as little colour as you wish.
The majority of this design is made up by working in full crosses and backstitch. When encountering long lines of backstitch on the pattern, remember that each stitch is the same size as a cross (over two threads). Eyelets are worked over either 2 or 3 threads. The sampler also features some satin stitches.
This pattern uses a total of four different colours: red, dark green, light green, and ecru. Floss estimates are listed in the graph below. The first number is red, the 2nd dark green, the 3rd light green, and the 4th number is ecru.
I would recommend the following Roxy Floss Co flosses (and DMC equivalents):
