Vickie tells us "We wish we knew more about Elsie and her cheerful schoolgirl sampler! Its style and materials date it to the mid to late 1800‘s. We‘ve adapted this Victorian wool work sampler from its coarse canvas with wool threads to linen with overdyed cotton floss. The phrase Home Sweet Home goes back to 1823 and the opera Clari or The Maid of Milan which was first performed in London. The sone became quite popular throughout the United States and was a favorite of both Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War.."
Stitch count is 218 W x 191 H.
