It also portrays Betsy’s marriage to John Ross in 1773, their attendance at Christ Church (where George Washington also attended), her meeting with the “Secret Committee” in 1776, and her second marriage in 1782 to sea captain Joseph Ashburn (whose ship was captured by the British). It also depicts her third marriage, to John Claypool; John worked at the US Customs House in Philadelphia, and their wedding date is stitched over the Liberty Bell.
