Description
John and Abigail Adams spent much of their marriage apart from each other, due to John‘s work for America‘s independence. Over the next four decades, they exchanged hundreds of letters, of which 1,160 of them survive today. Their love and fondness for each other was evident in their correspondence, much of it filled with endearments such as "Miss Adorable" and "My Dearest Friend." In 1801 John retired from life as a politician to join his beloved Abigail, and no more letters needed to be written.
