The Kraken: A nautical sampler

This sampler started life as a simple single ship I designed to embroider onto the top sheet on a set of bed linen. However a chance glimpse of a wonderful neck tattoo whilst travelling on the London tube introduced the Kraken, and the design just grew from there.

This modern design brings together ships inspired by traditional 17th century Dutch samplers and refreshes them with the addition of a Kraken, a legendary creature legendary of gargantuan size and fearsome appearance that features in Scandinavian folklore. I have chosen to design this for two colours, but the design could easily incorporate more enabling you to customize the look.

I‘ve also included a mini-sampler design featuring the letters and numbers you may need to customize the design, for example to change the date or to add your initials. Alternatively, this mini-sampler design is great for a quick and portable project, and potentially to use up any left-over floss!

Count size: 250 x 131

Finished size on 32ct linen: 15.6" x 8.2"

Stitched mainly in cross stitch with some back stitch for detailed work

The PDF chart is partially compatible with Pattern Keeper. Please note that Pattern Keeper is not currently able to show the back stitch details correctly.
